Blastocyst Biopsy
This technique is used prior to embryo transfer to select healthy embryos that do not carry genetic conditions or chromosomal abnormalities, such as thalassemia, Down syndrome, etc.
Blastocyst biopsy is a technique that is performed by embryologists before IVF. A few cells (3-6) are removed from the outer layer of the blastocyst cells, which is called trophectoderm. These cells undergo genetic/molecular analysis to diagnose their genetic material. This technique is used prior to embryo transfer to select healthy embryos that do not carry genetic conditions or chromosomal abnormalities, such as thalassemia, Down syndrome, etc.
